From : Jennifer Henderson[[email protected]]

To : Satoshi Jones

Date : October 1, 2014

Subject : Thank you

Dear Satoshi,

This is the first e-mail I’ve ever written. It’s pretty easy――even for a non-tech girl like me!

Thank you for coming over yesterday to help me set up my TV set and teaching me how to use the

computer. I’m so happy to have such a nice cousin. I am surprised to see that a young primary

school student could set up a TV set and teach computer skills. I have much respect for you. Did

you have enough time for homework after you got home?

The TV works very well for me. Almost every night, I enjoy watching the sports channel. It

is the football season now, and I am a big fan of the Asian Football League. The Bears is my favorite

team of all. We hope they will win the final game this season.

By the way, are you free after school next Saturday? As a way of thanking you, I was wondering

if you would like me to take you to the zoo that you were talking about yesterday. I got some

information about it from the guidebook. The lion bus seems very exciting for me, but there are some

nice dog shows that I’d like to see. Maybe you could invite your younger brother, Ken. You two

can watch the koalas there, while I am looking at the show. I will buy entrance tickets for all three

of us.

Check if it’s OK with Ken and your mom and then send me an e-mail. Let me know what time

you want me to come to your school and pick you up. I’ll need directions to your school. Please

send me a map to your school by e-mail.

Yours,

Jennifer

次の英文を読み、下記の質問に答えなさい。

Banff is one of the most popular places for enjoying the nature in Canada. Many tourists enjoy the

beautiful scenery of mountains and watching the wild animals. They get a lot of tourists not only from

in the country, but from all over the world.

It is also home to an unusual couple――a pair of deer named Alex and Jane. For the past 6 years,

the two deer have lived near a famous apartment building on Main Street. Many tourists and local people

have enjoyed watching them raise their babies and eating food near the park. Their actions are so cute

and lovely that lots of people love Alex and Jane.

Some of the people who lived in and near the building where Alex and Jane have lived together,

however, were not so pleased about having deer as neighbors. They said that deer were making the

sidewalk dirty with theirdroppings and pieces of food. In December 2014, the residents’ association tried to block them from entering, leaving them homeless. This made people unhappy. Deer lovers gathered

together in front of the building to show that they were against the decision. Many newspaper articles

were written about the deer. It seemed that almost everyone was angry that Alex and Jane had been made

to leave their home. Some of the city’s most famous citizens joined in the fight for the deer.

In the end, the residents of the building agreed that the deer could come back. A fence was set up

to guide them to the area to settle down. The city office has arrangedcustodians to keep the sidewalk clean from deer droppings. Although some animal lovers were worried that the deer would not come back,

they finally returned and settled back in their home. Now, people in Banff are hoping that the deer will

raise more babies in their house again.
